Jadon Sancho – Borussia Dortmund hosted Augsburg for the opening game of the season in the Bundesliga 2019-20. The Borrussians were high in spirits after their super successful offseason defeating Bayern Munich in the Super Cup as well with some very strong summer transfers such as Julian Brandt, Thorgan Hazard, Matts Hummels and Nico Schulz. Lucien Favre, the current coach of the ‘Schwarz und Gelb’, played the same line up that won against Bayern Munich and against Augsburg. Augsburg scored the first goal of the match 49 seconds after the first time whistle blew, stunning the home crowd who had just started cheering for their team.
The Dortmund defence was caught napping and a mistake from Lukasz Pizsceck cost the team. Dortmund picked themselves and started to build their own attacks the first attack of the game from BVB saw them score with a Marco Reus’s assist which got deflected by the Augsburg keeper and was easily finished by the former Barcelona player, Paco Alcacer. Dortmund dominated possession in the game with Witsel being fabulous. By the end of the game, he had more than 90 per cent pass accuracy.
The second half started with the scores level, Sancho was immediately more impactful in the second half with his natural gameplay. He was cutting through the Augsburg defence easily and was giving dangerous crosses. Sancho again scored a goal in the 51st minute from a deflection from the Augsburg defence. Dortmund was quick to extend their lead as Marco Reus doubled the lead from Sancho’s Assist. Just 2 minutes later, Dortmund tripled their lead by a goal made by Paco Alcacer.

On the opening day of the season, Julian Brandt made his debut and rewarded the fans by scoring a debut goal. It was a volley from the perfect cross from Axel Witsel who spotted his run towards the Augsburg goal. Dortmund, in the end, registered a 5-1 victory after a shaky few minutes. Favre commended the team for being calm and patient after conceding early, in the post-match conference. Dortmund now sits on the top of the Bundesliga table.
