Jharkhand Mines Roof Caved In, 7 killed
Reportedly seven workers have been killed and at least 20 trapped in the eastern state of Jharkhand after a mine collapsed on Thursday.
The General Manager of the Rajmahal Open Cast Mines, SK Singh, said, Heavy smog prevented rescue workers from entering the mine until early this morning.
Around 23 people are allegedly missing, said senior police officer RK Mallik.
Chief Minister Raghubar Das said that he has directed speedy rescue and relief efforts.”All senior officials have been asked to stay at the site,” he said on Twitter.
PM Modi Tweeted, “Jharkhand Government & Minister @PiyushGoyal are working to restore normalcy”.
Mechanical diggers are being used by Emergency workers to rescue the people trapped in the debris.
Jharkhand is one of the richest mineral zones in India, some 29 percent of the country’s coal deposits present in the impoverished state.
