Khelo India Youth Games Medal Tally and other highlights:
- Maharashtra won four gold medals each in swimming and gymnastics along with a gold each in athletics and badminton to take their overall tally to 56
- Delhi won a total of 9 yellow medals on Sunday to take their number to 42. At third are last year’s champions Haryana with a 33 medal haul
- In the aggregate tally, Maharashtra became the first state to cross 150 medals while Delhi and Haryana both moved past the 100 mark
A staggering 15 gold medals for hosts Maharashtra on Sunday in the Khelo India Youth Games saw them maintain their supremacy at the top, moving to 56 medals, 14 ahead of second-placed Delhi. Despite their best efforts to maintain the pace with Maharashtra, Delhi’s nine first placed finishes on the day which involved three gold medals from swimming were not enough to take them close to the table toppers. Meanwhile last year’s champions Haryana slumped further behind in their quest to retain their title, sitting in third place with 33 medals.

A flawless day of action at the prestigious Khelo India Youth Games saw Maharashtra become the first state to cross the 150 medal mark with their 56 gold medals being added to by an impressive 44 silver and 56 bronze medals. On what was a good outing for Delhi as well, they entered the 100 medals tally with 42 golds, 27 silvers and 38 bronzes. Joining them were Haryana with 103 to make a formidable top 3 that should see it maintain its shape come to the end of the event on January 20.
Swimming was the biggest gainer for both rivals Maharashtra and Delhi with out of the 12 gold medals at stake on the day, the two states together walked away with 7 of them under their arms with Maharashtra managing to pip Delhi with 4 as compared to the capital city’s 3.
Maharashtra meanwhile managed to get off their boy’s U17 boxing challenge off to a flier as well with their side studded with fighters from the Boys Sports Company enjoying a successful day out which saw all their participants win their respective bouts.
For third place, Haryana’s scintillating show in wrestling continued at the games, winning a mind-boggling 24 gold, 16 silver and 18 bronze medals to cross the half-century mark. Such has been their dominance and tight hold over the games that they have all by themselves won more medals in the boy’s category than all the rest of the states combined. The next most successful state in the discipline was Delhi, who despite having a wonderful outing on the opening day, tapered off to let Haryana continue their tight-hold over the sport.

The girl’s category was no different with Haryana showing the country why they are at the forefront when it comes to developing the premium wrestlers in the country year after year with the girls bagging 12 of the 14 yellow metals at stake.
Aimed at promoting the excellent sporting culture in the country by providing and nurturing upcoming athletes in the country with a massive national platform to showcase their talent and compete among the best sportspersons, the second edition of the Khelo India Youth Games has been every bit successful in its goal. The first 5 days of the showpiece games have provided not just immense competition among the various disciplines but also helped acclimatise the young breed of sports stars with the format at the highest level of a sport.
