With India’s biggest challenge drawing to a close, players underwent various fitness Yo-Yo Test tests as the BCCI continues to ensure that fitness is given the utmost importance ahead of the long summer season. With India’s tour of England less than a month away, players went through the yo-yo test which has been made mandatory for player’s selection into the side. All eyes were on Virat Kohli as the Indian captain underwent the test after going through rehabilitation for a neck injury he had suffered while playing in the Indian Premier League for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
India’s mainstay at the top of the batting order and the world’s best batsman Virat Kohli went through a fitness test after a short injury rehab at NCA in M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Indian fitness coach Shankar Basu was present through the duration of the test which saw Kohli pass Yo-Yo Test, showing no discomfort during the duration of the test. The news comes as big boost to the Indians who need their skipper to be fully fit before their gruelling overseas test. However Kohli is expected to miss the Ireland tour in a bid to be 100% fit before India travel to England.
Other senior players of the team also went through the test with MS Dhoni, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Suresh Raina among the names. The trio were successful in their test as they were put through the paces by the NCA trainers.
One of the biggest shock of the test was Chennai Superkings batsman Ambati Rayudu failing his yo-yo test. The news came as a big surprise to the Indian team as Rayudu had no fitness issues going into the test. The news came as a big disappointment to not only Rayudu but also the team who were relying on the player to show the same performances as he had in the IPL where he had scored a mammoth 601 runs. Rayudu scored a dismal 14 in the test while qualifying mark is 16.1. Suresh Raina was named as replacement to Rayudu in India’s ODI squad which will play a three-match series against England.
