Leicester City defeated Brentford 1-0 at Griffin Park to move ahead to the last, 16 round of the FA Cup, for the very first time in history.

The only goal of the game came as early as 4 minutes into the match, with Kelechi Iheanacho scoring the ninth goal of his competition to provide a win to his team. Dennis Praet assisted the 23-year-old Nigerian with his phenomenal through-ball.

Brentford failed to score any goals in the game, largely due to manager Thomas Frank’s decision to play an alternative team. This was because they have an important game against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.

After an early goal, there were a very few number of chances in the game from both sides. Leicester City’s, Hamza Choudhury and Dennis Praet’s efforts were blocked. Subsequently, Kelechi Iheanacho’s attempt to score a goal was saved wonderfully by the home team’s goalkeeper.

Brentford failed to equalize the score in the 16th minute, owing to Emiliano Marcondes’ missed attempt. Another couple of missed chances by Jan Zamburek and Halil Dervisoglu, further let the home team down. A wonderful save from the Leicester goalkeeper kept the ball out at the 39th minute when Dominic Thompson made an attempt to score with his left-footed shot.

There were very few chances created in the second half, with Brentford failing to put themselves at part with the visitors. Luka Racic saved an attempt by keeper Danny Ward in the 83rd minute and his subsequent miss in the 87th minute of the game sealed off the win for the visitors.

With this defeat, Brentford played the last game at their 116-year-old home ground, Tumbledown Stadium. They are scheduled to move to a new ground for the next season.

In the post-match interview, Leicester manager, Brendan Rodgers said that the team’s attitude was very well. He also added that they had to be cautious, especially due to the kind of football Brentford was playing in this season. Further, he said that their aggression helped them get the goal early on but their lack of precision is what cost them a couple of additional goals.
