The polling for Lok Sabha Election 2019 Phase 3 Voting started today. A total of 117 seats in 13 states and 2 union territories have gone into polling today. Jammu and Kashmir have also gone in polling today. There are 6 parliamentary constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir – Baramulla, Jammu, Srinagar, Udhampur, Anantnag and Ladakh. In the third phase of elections, voting is being done in only Anantnag constituency.
Anantnag is a highly-sensitive constituency as it is spread across four districts – Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama. Elections in Anantnag will be held from 7am to 4pm, instead of 6pm, which is the standard voting deadline.
Nearly 18.5 crore voters in Gujarat, Kerala, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Assam, Goa, Jammu and Kashmir, Tripura and Union Territories Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu will decide the fate of contestants of various parties.
The presidents of BJP and Congress are the key candidates in the third phase. Amit Shah of BJP is contesting from Gandhinagar. Congress president Rahul Gandhi is contesting from Kerala’s Wayanad, and Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.
Other key candidates include Samajwadi Party founder, Mulayam Singh Yadav who is contesting from Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh and his brother Shivpal Yadav is contesting as Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) candidate from Firozabad.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother Heeraben Modi also cast her vote at a polling booth in Raysan village near Gandhinagar.
Strict security arrangements have been made on polling booths. Armed soldiers of paramilitary forces have been deployed as additional forces at highly sensitive centers.
