Mane Scores Late To Edge Liverpool Past Crystal Palace

  • Liverpool defeat Palace 1-0
  • Mane scored the winner
  • Palace are still winless after 2 matches

Liverpool finally rubbed off the wretched curse cast over them by Crystal Palace as they finally beat them at home via a Sadio Mane goal. Going into the match with many changes from the first game week, it looked as if the decision to leave attacking players like Salah out would cost Klopp as Liverpool struggled to make the breakthrough in the match. The wave of attack after attack by them however ultimately paid off as Mane slid in after a rebound landed the ball at his feet, to put the ball in the back off the net to the delight of the Liverpool faithful.

Liverpool knew they would face a tough task as they faced a tricky Crystal Palace side who over the years had a knack of defeating them. Manager Klopp went in with a B defense and without ace Salah, keeping in mind the fatigue of the side given that they had played Hoffenheim in the Champions Trophy qualifier on Thursday. With Coutinho’s transfer status still not clear, their failure in the transfer market and Liverpool’s shambolic defensive performance in the first match against Watford, fans were pessimistic before kick-off. It looked their worst fear would come true, as a determined Crystal Palace unit defended resolutely to ride away from a barrage of Liverpool attacks.

Despite having a bulk of the possession and creating a load of chances, Liverpool was unable to string together a goal and looked to be heading for another draw. The introduction of some key players late on saw Liverpool press with more intent in search of the goal and it paid off as some questionable defending saw Mane latch onto a loose ball and tuck it away in the back of the net.

The manner the win came in though would have far from satisfied Liverpool supporters who now see their team take on Hoffenheim in the second CL qualifier with a one goal lead.
