Maratha Yodhas edged past 10-9 against Haryana Warriors to win the inaugural season of the Super Boxing League at the Siri Fort stadium in New Delhi. It was a final that provided high quality entertainment as it went right down to the wire. Yodhas took a 6-0 lead before they were pegged back by Warriors. Yodhas however showed their class and mettle to see through a 10-9 win on the night.
Maratha Yoddhas started the final fight night on the front-foot. They went on to win the first two bouts through Sandeep Singh and Andy Chuaua to give them a 6-0 lead. The first bout of the night saw debutant Sandeep Singh from the Maratha Yoddhas take on Naveen Nehra from the Haryana Warriors in the Feather Weight category. Guile and skill from the debutant saw him seal the bout by unanimous decision and power Yodhas to a 3-0 lead. Haryana’s Parmod Kumar faced Andy Chuaua from the Maratha Yoddhas in the Welter Weight category the second bout of the final. Chuaua was too strong for Kumar and handed a second straight win to Yodhas. Kumari kept her composure to make a comeback in the last two Rounds to win the match by Unanimous Decision in the third bout which saw Warriors open their account. Haryana Warriors’ Sandeep Nain who caused an upset when he beat the undefeated Yodhas skipper Deepak Tanwar in the Middle Weight category. It was a huge victory for Nain as well as Warriors who equalled the tie at 6-6.
Yoddhas’ Sandeep Chhikara was assigned with the task of getting a victory in the last bout against Jagdeep Singh of the Haryana Warriors in the Heavy Weight category. He showed immense power as he knocked out Singh with a powerful punch to win via Technical Knockout and seal a 10-9 victory for Yodhas, bringing an end to a successful season of the Super Boxing League.
