A sportswoman who has made India proud with her glorious achievements, Mary Kom or MC Mary Kom is the only Indian woman boxer who managed to qualify for the 2012 Summer Olympics where she also won a Bronze Medal. Nicknamed Magnificent Mary, she is a five-time World Boxing champion and the only Indian woman boxer who has won a medal in each of the world championships. She is also the first Indian woman boxer to get a Gold Medal in the Asian Games in 2014 in Incheon, South Korea. Mary Kom is today supported by the Olympic Gold Quest.
Ranking No. 4 in the AIBA World Women’s Ranking for the Flyweight category, she achieved this success after successfully facing all the difficulties and challenges that came her way. She was born in Kangathei Village, Moirang Lamkhai. She was interested in Martial arts and boxing from her early childhood.
She is a prolific sportswoman who demonstrated a relentless passion for the game fuelled by immense passion and drive for the game. Her first career win came in 2000 when she won the Best Boxer Award at the First State Level Invitation at the women’s boxing championship in Manipur. The laurels kept rolling in for her after that as she went on to climb new heights and break a plethora of records. Mary was revered in the boozing world after she became the only female boxer to win a medal in six consecutive world championships. An inspiration for all, Mary Kom is the first amateur athlete to win the Padma Bhushan.
