MI Vs KXIP highlights
Yearning for an edge of the seat thriller since weeks, the Indian Premier League finally meted out a cracker of an encounter when the Mumbai Indians played hosts to the Kings XI Punjab. It was a pure cricketing spectacle, an intriguing encounter that went down right to the last ball, before Mumbai finally swung a topsy turvy encounter their way for one last time to seal a 3 wicket win on the night. A humdinger of a clash, the raucous affair was just what was needed to light back up the tournament which had started to lose viewers over the last week.
Going into the clash without their captain and opener Rohit Sharma, as the Indians walked out to chase in the second part of the innings, the daunting target at hand was always going to be a stiff challenge for them. And with Punjab bowling right on the money in the first half of the chase, Mumbai kept losing wickets at regular intervals, with soft dismals leaving them in a tricky proposition to knock down the score at hand.
MI Vs KXIP highlights
As the entire top order fell cheaply, with a high score of 24 by Quinton de Kock among the top 5 batsmen, everything lay on Pollard, the captain for the day for the home side. Yet again going with just 5 bowlers in their line-up ending up costing Punjab big time. As Curran and Ankit came under heat, being cleaned apart for 54 and 52 runs respectively, Ashwin’s lacklustre captaincy had no answers yet again, leaving his side searching for answers as things started falling apart for them.
Batting till the last over, 31 ball 83 innings by Pollard, one in which he hit the appalling Ankit for a six and four off the last over, saw his side all but edge towards a win. The match did have some last jitters though with script taking a new turn as MI went into the last ball needed 2 runs but a low full toss by Ankit was enough to see them wrap up an extremely well-deserved win.

Earlier in the day while batting first, Punjab had come out blasting the Indians bowlers. There was no containing Gayle and Rahul with Gayle, in particular, taking on any bowler that was sent his way. From a position where anything above200 looked a real possibility, Gayle’s wicket for 63 runs off 36 balls saw his side lose their way in the middle overs as the batsmen to follow stumbled before 25 runs off Pandya’s 19th overtook Rahul to his 100 and Punjab to an impressive 197 run total.
