Women’s cricket: Mithali Raj’s views on the Women’s T20 Challenge rescheduled by BCCI
Mithali Raj latest news – Team India Women’s ODI Skipper Mithali Raj is quite happy with the BCCI’s decision to conduct the much-anticipated Women’s T20 Challenge parallelly with the IPL playoffs to be held in the UAE. Some international cricketers might not be happy with the move with Alyssa Healy and Suzie Bates emphasizing on the point that the T20 challenge will coincide with Women’s Big Bash League in Australia during mid-October to November end.

In an interview with the PTI, Mithali said that the BCCI did their best in these troubling times. With the IPL being pushed to the UAE and postponed to mid-September, it was not a normal time for any competitive event to be held and she is happy that the T20 Challenge is at least being conducted. With the women’s team having not played a single competitive match since the World T20 final against Australia, Mithali feels that amid the constantly growing coronavirus cases in India, it is very difficult for the players to regain normalcy especially because the England tour was called off. She also said that she understood the frustration of international players as they would also want to take part in the Women’s T20 Challenge and no international cricketer would want to choose between the Big Bash and the T20 Challenge. But training restrictions along with the constant increase in the coronavirus cases did not allow the event to be organised any time sooner.

Regarding the tours which were scheduled before the World Cup scheduled for next year, Mithali said that they are yet to get the date of the tours. She also said that even if the event would have been scheduled anytime sooner that it is being scheduled, the girls would not get enough time to practice like other international teams like England and Australia who have resumed practice much sooner than themselves.

BCCI have also said that they are planning to host a home series against South Africa, alongside the women’s team touring the Caribbean. Mithali Raj said that more than the T20 Challenge, she was happier about the fact that at least some cricket was being resumed in India. She believes that this gives hope to the players and helps them to make a plan ahead to get out of the uncertainty surrounding the situation. She said that they were expecting a training camp sometime around September-October.
