Most famous thieves of India – Natwarlal
- Mithilesh Kumar Srivastava also known as Natwarlal was an Indian thief who was originally a lawyer by profession. He was born in a village in Bihar. He was a very talented forger and tried to sell the Taj Mahal, Red Fort, the Rashtrapati Bhawan and even the Parliament House of India to the foreigners.
- He was a master in robbing and used novel ideas to cheat people. He was also a master in forging signatures of famous personalities.
- Natwarlal was arrested nine times but every time he managed to break out of jail and escape. He was convicted for 14 cases of robbery and was sentenced to 113 years, but he hardly spent 20 years in jail.
- The last time he was arrested was in 1996 when he was 84 years old. At that time, he was wheelchair-bound and managed to evade his captors at New Delhi railway station.
- The date of his death is uncertain, but his lawyer claimed that he died in 2009, and his brother states that he was cremated at Ranchi.
- A crime-based television program was broadcasted in 2004 by Aaj Tak, named “Jurm” which was based on his life.

Most famous thieves of India – Bunty Chor
- Devinder Singh, popularly known as Bunty chor, is an extremely charismatic, fearless and confident thief who was born in New Delhi.
- Bunty is a class nine dropout and he was first arrested in New Delhi in 1993 when he was a teenager. However, he managed to escape from the police at that time. Bunty never bought any property. He used to stay at Five Star Hotels.
- Bunty has committed over 500 robberies across the country. From Delhi to Bangalore, Chennai, and Mumbai, he has robbed people in almost all the big cities and yet always managed to escape from the police.
- The one thing that helped Bunty to pull off his daring robberies was his art to handle dogs. He was known to be a compulsive womanizer.
- Dibakar Banerjee’s movie Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye starring Abhay Deol was based on his life. He was also a contestant in the fourth season of reality TV show Bigg Boss 2010. A Malayalam film based on the life of Bunty Chor has also been made.
- In 2017, Bunty Chor was sentenced to Jail for 10 years. When he was asked about the robbery, he said, “I do it not because I am poor or I need it, I do it because I love it”.

Most famous thieves of India – Subhash Kapoor
- Subhash Kapoor, one of the world’s largest antiquities smugglers is a New York-based art dealer in Chennai. Before this, he was the owner of the Art of the Past gallery in Manhattan, New York.
- The Manhattan District Attorney’s office filed a case against Subhash Kapoor charging him with operating a $145 million smuggling ring that dealt with thousands of looted antiquities over a period of 30 years.
- Kapoor was first arrested in 2011 in Germany for dealing in looted artworks.
- Currently, he is on trial in a jail in India since July 2012. The new charges include 86 counts, from grand larceny to criminal possession of the stolen property.
- In 2012, authorities revealed that they had seized over $100 million in stolen ancient art from the dealer’s storage facilities. More than 2,600 ancient statues, artworks, and other artifacts have been recovered to 2016.
