Today we shall bring the top Skippers of the team who have been successful captains in Test Matches, T20 Internationals, and One Day International Cricket.

Most Successful Captains in Cricket – These captains are highly successful and have more than 100 wins for their respective teams. Here is the list of the Captains who have been successful in all the 3 formats –

The former Aussie skipper was the best and the most successful captain in cricket. He was also the best batsman for Australia but his captaincy skills were unmatched and that too across all the formats of the game. He has captained Australia in 77 test matches, 229 one day Internationals and 17 T29 International matches. Pointing was not so successful as the T20 captain. Australia only won 7 games out of the 17 matches he captained and so Punter captained Australia in T20s. But Ponting’s records as the ODI and Test captains are simply awesome. Australia won 48 out of 77 test matches under the leadership of Ponting as captain. In the ODIs, Australia won 164 out of 229 fifty over matches in Ponting’s captaincy. He also took the Aussies to the 2003 and 2007 world cup titles. Not only this, but he also took Australia to the semi-finals of the 2011 world cup and also captained Australia in the two events of ICC World T20 but couldn’t win a single title till now.

MS Dhoni  – Most Successful Captains in Cricket

Mahi is India’s most successful skipper across all the formats. He is the only one to have won all the ICC trophies. He was considered as the hard hitter wicket-keeper batsman for India. With his captaincy skills, he became the finest captains that India had after Kapil Dev. The former Indian skipper led India to many victories and captained India in 331 international matches which is also the most by any player. In the ODIs, Dhoni has captained 199 matches, in test matches,60 matches and in the shortest format, Mahi has captained India in 72 matches. MSD became a highly successful skipper of all time. In the 60 test matches, he led India to win 27 test matches. In the 199 ODI matches too, he led India to win 74 games(in the 50 over format). Dhoni also captained India in 41 winning shortest format matches. With that, MSD has 3 ICC trophies that no other captain in the world has earlier won. He won the 2007 World T20, the 2011 world cup and the 2013 Champion Trophy in England. He is the only captain to win all the 3 ICC trophies.

Mahela is the most loved cricketer who is known to be the greatest batsman as well as the greatest captains to have served the Sri Lankan Cricket. Jayawardene is also the longest-serving captain for Sri Lanka. He captained Sri Lanka in 186 international matches which is the most by any captains in International cricket. Apart from captaining Sri Lanka, Mahela also captained the Asia XI for 3 matches. That tournament was played against the Africa XI and he made his team won all the three one day games. For Sri Lanka, he captained 38 test matches, 126 One Day Internationals, and 19 T20 Internationals. In that, Jayawardene led his team to 19 test wins, 68 ODI wins and 12 wins in the shortest format. Thus, he became an iconic and inspirational leader for Sri Lankan Cricket. He was also the most successful captain for his country. He led his team to the finals of the 2007 world cup and also to Sri Lanka’s first and only title in T20 International cricket in 2014.

Graeme Smith  – Most Successful Captains in Cricket

Smith began his journey in international cricket as an opening batsman but soon his career turned when he was handed the captaincy role early in his career. But he handled the job well and now, Smith is the finest captain from South Africa. Smith captained South Africa in 286 matches which included 108 test matches, 149 one day international matches, and 27 T20 International matches. With that, Smith also captained the ICC World XI in a test match. With his skill and pure determination, he led to 53 test matches wins, 91 ODI match wins and 18 T20 International match wins. Smith also captained South Africa in the 2007 and 2011 ODI World Cup and 2007, 2009 and 2010 T20 world cup. But still, South Africa hasn’t won any ICC events yet.

Stephen Fleming  – Most Successful Captains in Cricket

Stephen is the longest-serving skipper of New Zealand. He is remembered as a tactician in cricket. Fleming is an iconic captain who led New Zealand for a period of 10 years. Fleming led the Kiwis in ODIs, T20Is and the test matches. He was a left-handed batsman and captained his country in 80 test matches, 218 ODI matches, and 5 T20 International matches. He has won all the 5 T20 games where he captained New Zealand and in the longest format, he has won 28 matches out of 80 while in the 50 over format, Fleming has won 98 ODI matches out of 218 ODIs. Fleming captained New Zealand from 1999 to 2007 and in that period of time, he led the Blackcaps in 3 World Cup tournaments but still didn’t win a single world cup title.
