His first ICC trophy was the World T20 Cup in South Africa which he won on 24 September 2007. Then, he did an impossible thing which no host countries could do. India was the co-host of the ODI Cricket World Cup in 2011. No host or co-host has won a world cup until MS Dhoni. He did this impossible thing and made India win the world cup after 28 long years. On 2 April 2011, India beat Sri Lanka in the World Cup Final in Mumbai and became the first host, co-host country to win the 50 over world cup.

Dhoni also won the ICC Champions Trophy in England. After India won the world cup, the team toured England for a full-fleshed tour. But team India couldn’t win a single match on that tour. India was whitewashed in ODIs and test matches. That is why, it was considered a difficult task to win the ICC Champions Trophy. But on 23 June 2013, Dhoni led his men to another ICC Trophy victory.

Dhoni also won the Asia Cup in 2010 and the Asia Cup T20 in 2016. These two are part of Asian Cricket Council which is why it is not discussed. But credits should go to Dhoni for his brilliant success as a skipper.

Dhoni is the captain with the most wins in IPL – Dhoni is the first captain to win the most games in the Indian Premier League. He is also the only player to captain a franchise for 12 years. Mahi has a record of winning 150 IPL matches. He made this record when Chennai Super Kings defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 11th season of the IPL. The match was played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Mahi has the Most sixes to his name in International Cricket – The record of maximum sixes as captain in International Cricket is in the name of MS Dhoni. He scored 204 sixes as captain. At the second place is former Australian captain Ricky Ponting with 194 sixes.

Dhoni has the most Wins as an International Cricket Captain – Dhoni’s name is counted as the most successful captain’s of India in International Cricket. He has won 110 out of 200 matches, his winning percentage is 59.52.

The first Indian captain to win the man of the match in the final of the World Cup – Dhoni is the third captain and the first Indian captain to win the Man of the Match in the final of the World Cup. He scored an unbeaten 91 not out in the 2011 World Cup final.
