On the occasion of the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s 93rd birthday, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation(SDMC) has launched a scheme under “Atal Jan Aahaar Yojna” (AJAY) on 25th December 2017. Under the scheme, people will get lunch for just Rs 10.
The scheme has been launched, currently from various centres in South and North Delhi such as Okhla Mandi, Matiala chowk, Green Park/AIIMS, Raghubir Nagar, KakrolaMor in Najafgarh and in Shalimar Bagh.
As per a statement released by SDMC, the Aahaar Kendra will provide four puris or 250g rice with 150g sabzi in one of these combinations like: chhole-chawal, rajma-chawal, puri-sabzi, dal-chawal, puri-chhole. The meal will the available all seven days in between 11 to 2 pm. The stall dimension is 9 feet by 5 feet in size, which have been set up by the NGOs operating midday meal kitchens.The civic bodies expect to sell around 500-700 plates every day.
The south Delhi mayor and BJP leader Kamaljeet Sehrawat expressed her pleasure over fulfilling an essential promise of the election manifesto. Further, she added the scheme and food centres will be soon extended to include dinner and opening of more centres are in the pipeline.
Apart from South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), North Municipal Corporation has also initiated a food stall project, called “Atal Rasoi Deen Dayal Aahaar Kendra”, which has been opened in Shalimar Bagh.Similarly, Delhi Municipal Corporation will open the scheme in every ward in the next year.However, the East Municipal Corporation has put the scheme on hold due to its financial crisis.
