Vijender Singh Beniwal better known as Vijender Singh is a household name in India famous for his excellent boxing ability. The professional boxer and current WBO Asia Pacific Superweight Middleweight Champion has achieved everything there is to in the world of boxing. A product of the famous Bhiwani Boxing Club, Singh was the first Indian boxer to win an Olympic medal and is also responsible for bringing India on the global stage in boxing. He has now made a switch to professional boxing and is the current WBO Oriental Super Middleweight Champion.

 

    • He was a gymnast before he got inspired by his elder brother Manoj to take up boxing. He coached at the Bhiwani Boxing Club where he put in endless hours of practice to fine hone his skills.

 

    • He was first noticed in 1997 when he won a silver medal at a national level sub-junior tournament. Three years later he went on to win the gold medal at the Nationals. In 2003 he emerged the all-India youth boxing champion to win the biggest boxing tournament in the nation.

 

    • He was picked to represent India at the Afro-Asian Games in Hyderabad. Winning a gold at that event, he was selected to represent India at the Athens Olympics in the welterweight category. He had a poor international debut as he crashed out in the initial rounds.

 

    • Continuing his dominance at the national level, Singh was selected to represent India at the 2006 Commonwealth Games held in Melbourne, Australia. He ended up winning the bronze medal and also went on to win the bronze medal at the Asian Games held in Doha in the middleweight category to round off a highly successful year for himself.

 

    • His first big achievement came when he became the first Indian boxer to win a medal at the Olympics after he picked up bronze at the Beijing Olympics. There was no looking back from there on from him. He picked up gold at the Commonwealth Boxing Championship in 2010 and the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games.

 

    • Won the gold at the Asian Games and the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland

 

    • Became the first Indian boxer to turn professional after he achieved the feat in 2015. Has had a highly successful career and currently hold 2 WBO Titles.
