National Youth Day in India – India celebrates National Youth Day every year on 12th January to mark the birth anniversary of India’s philosopher and leader, Swami Vivekananda. In 1984, the Government of India decided to honour his teachings and values by dedicating his birthday to India’s youth. Every year, various events are held across the country to celebrate this day. Schools and colleges conduct competitions, seminars, and processions to mark this day. In 2022, India will celebrate its 25th National Youth Day. However, due to the COVID surge, programs would be held virtually.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the 25th National Youth Day via video conference in Puducherry. The program will begin at 11.00 a.m. on 12 January, 2022.

The youth festival aims to inspire the country’s youth and shape their minds to grow and become successful. It also aims at inspiring them towards building their nation.

25th National Youth Day Festival

The festival will be organised on 12th and 13th January, 2022. After the inauguration by the Prime Minister, the National Youth Summit would begin. For this year’s summit, four themes have been decided. The themes focus on the youth-led development of the country and solving the current challenges and issues of the country. The four themes are:

  • Environment, climate, and SDG-led growth
  • Tech, entrepreneurship, and innovation
  • Indigenous and ancient wisdom
  • National character, nation building, and home growth

A panel will convene the summit and discuss the above themes.

The event would also include:

  • Video capsules of Puducherry and Auroville (an experimental township in Puducherry based on Sri Aurobindo’s vision)
  • Sports games and folk dances through videos
  • Virtual Yoga sessions
  • Live performances
  • Open discussions with Olympians and Para-Olympians

National Youth Day in India

The Prime Minister would release selected essays on ‘Mere Sapno ka Bharat’ and ‘Unsung Heroes on Indian Freedom Movement.’ Over 1 lakh submissions have been received for these two themes.

The PM would also be inaugurating:

  • Technology Centre of MSME Ministry: A technology centre has been established in Puducherry to focus on the Electronic System Design and Manufacturing Sector. Opened with an investment of Rs. 122 Crores, the centre would skill 6400 trainees every year with the latest technology.
  • Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Manimandapam: The Government of Puducherry has constructed an auditorium with open-air theatre for education purposes. The auditorium costing Rs. 23 crores can accommodate over 1000 people.

  • CBSE has asked schools across the country to organize an event on the occasion of National Youth Day in online or offline mode.
