Adding to their kitty another coveted and stellar series win in a country known to cause all sorts of troubles to India, the Indian sojourn shits to the T20 series. Starting 6th February, the Indian contingent will wrap up their New Zealand visit with the first match of a three-match ODI series in Wellington, set to begin at 12:30 pm IST.
Coming back to New Zealand Vs India T20 Series, while the shortest format of the game will see an extensive change in game-plan and strategy, seeing a completely different manner in which players approach the matches from the ODIs, there’s a lot at stake for both the sides ahead of the looming world cup. Fringe players will feature heavily in the series, something that has been asserted by both the sides with each looking to test out some new faces and have a look at some of the other players they have earmarked to take to England for the world cup beginning in May.
Ahead of the series opener on Wednesday, both sides have announced their 15 man squads with India’s seeing their captain Virat Kohli and the effervescent Jasprit Bumrah continue to sit out as was already announced by the BCCI earlier in a bid to manage their hectic workload. The series could see Mohammed Shami get a much-needed rest at some point as well with the Indian team management emphasising the importance by giving him some much needed time off from the game in lieu of the exquisite and unrelenting efforts he has put in over the last couple of months.
From New Zealand’s perspective, the series offers a massive opportunity to put behind them a disappointing ODI series in which they were thoroughly outplayed. And looking to put in a resounding performance against the tourists, New Zealand has turned to new faces, with two debutants being called up to the squad in Mitchell and Tickner besides Kuggeleijen who has played just one match till date.
The move is taken with the same motive, India keeping in mind to ensure that there are no needless injuries to the main players in the side ahead of the world cup. Kane Williamson, speaking before the first match said that the series is another great opportunity to play against one of the best sides in the fraternity at the moment and his side will be looking to rectify the mistakes they committed during the ODI series.
