EAM S Jaishankar discusses visa delay with US Secretary

  • External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in the US. He discussed US visa delays of Indian nationals. The US Secretary of State said that he is sensitive to the issue and assured that there is a plan to address it. He also explained that COVID-19 pandemic caused this backlog.

25 Congress MLAs met with Gehlot in Rajasthan

  • Amid the political turmoil in Rajasthan, 25 Rajasthan Congress MLAs met with CM Ashok Gehlot at his residence. Although, there was no discussion of presidential polls, the MLAs did give feedback on the state issues.

  • Swedish Defence Major Saab has announced that it will be setting up a manufacturing facility to produce Carl-Gustaf M4 weapon systems in India. The production is slated to start in 2024.

Lt. Gen Anil Chauhan appointed as new Chief of Defence Staff

  • The government has appointed Lt. General Anil Chauhan as the new Chief of Defence Staff. He had retired as the Eastern Army Command Chief last year. He is a military advisor to NSA Ajit Doval. By assuming his new post, he will be responsible for building integrated war-fighting machinery within budget constraints.

R Venkataramani has been appointed as the next attorney general

  • The government has notified the appointment of R Venkatramani as the General Attorney for a period of 3 years. The tenure of current General Attorney KK Venugopal ends on 30th September.

Bharat Jodo Yatra to enter Tamil Nadu today

  • Rahul Gandhi and his supporters will finish the last phase of Bharat Jodo Yatra in Kerela and enter Tamil Nadu today. The yatra resumed from Marthoma College Junction at Chungathara and will reach Vazhikadavu after covering a distance of 8.6 kms.

Ashok Gehlot to meet Sonia Gandhi today

  • Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot reached Delhi on Wednesday night and will be meeting party chief Sonia Gandhi today. He said that all matters will be resolved soon under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi. AICC general secretary in-charge KC Venugopal also said that new Rajasthan CM will be announced soon.

PMGKAY free rations extended by 3 months

  • The government has extended distribution of free ration under Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana by 3 months. The extension will cost Rs. 44.762 crores to the government.

New Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai railway stations to get revamped

  • The cabinet has approved the redevelopment of New Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai railway stations. The project has been approved with a budget of Rs. 10,000 crores. The redevelopment of these stations is expected to be completed by 2026.
