Supreme Court of India today said that Liquor shops will not be allowed on Highways from April onwards. Moreover, The license of existing shops will not be renewed.
The court said that the Liquor shops must be at least 500 meters away from state and national highways, and has also ordered that Liquor banners and ads be removed.
The orders will be implemented by the Chief Secretary and police chiefs of states.
The Court was hearing the petitions challenging various high court verdicts which said, that liquor shops must be located at a distance from state highway so that these shops are neither visible nor accessible to the commuters.
This has been made in order to secure the safety of commuters who get distracted, which later cause accidents.
