The Kiwis won the toss and batted first in this match. They needed to bat well but their openers continued their poor form in this tournament. Martin Guptill was out for just 5 runs. It was Mohd Amir who dismissed the Kiwi opener in the very first over. Then came the Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson, who was again under because of an early loss of wicket.

It was later part of the innings where New Zealand lost the wicket of de Grandhomme. He was unfortunately run out for 68 runs. New Zealand couldn’t finish the innings well but still, they had a defendable score on the board.
James Neesham was not out on 97 runs. It was his partnership with de Grandhomme took New Zealand to 238 runs for the loss of 6 wickets after they completed their 50 overs. It looked as New Zealand would have bowled out very quickly but the partnership of 132 runs saved New Zealand’s blushes.

The chase of 239 was a tricky one for Pakistan as it was turning pitch, but the Kiwi had only one spinner. The Birmingham wicket started to turn in the 2nd innings. In the meantime, Haris Sohail got to his 2nd back to back fifty in this tournament and Babar Azam became the first Pakistani middle order batsmen to score a World Cup century in 32 years. Pakistan was just a double away from the target but he was run out in the last. Haris Sohail was out after playing another match-winning hand. He was dismissed for 68 runs.
It was Sarfraz who finished off the game with the centurion at the other end. Sarfraz Khan was unbeaten on 5 runs and Babar Azam was 101 not out. Babar scored his 10th ODI hundred and his first one in this world cup 2019. He played an excellent knock and that too under pressure. Due to his heroics, Pakistan won the match by 6 wickets and 5 balls to spare. Pakistan is still in contention after winning against South Africa and now New Zealand. They will face Bangladesh and Afghanistan in their last two world cup games.
Babar Azam was named the man of the match for his unbeaten world cup hundred.

New Zealand didn’t have a target that they would have defended easily. Their bowlers tried hard but they couldn’t succeed. Mitch Santner bowled well but he remained wicketless. The Pakistani batters did a smart thing. They didn’t give Santner any wickets. The Kiwis also missed an extra front line spinner.
Trent Boult also was ordinary in this match. He took only 1 wicket with Skipper Williamson and de Grandhomme picked up 1 wicket each to their name.
