PKL 2017: Haryana Beat Delhi As Thalaivas And Yoddha Play Out A Draw

Deepak Kumar Dahiya dictated the Haryana Steelers’ play on Wednesday as they went on to beat Dabang Delhi 27-25 in Lucknow. In the other match of the day, Tamil Thalaivas and UP Yoddha played out an entertaining 33-33 tie.


Delhi started the match poorly and a shambolic first half performance ended up dictating the result on the night for them.Despite starting on the front foot and leading 2-0, Delhi was unable to make the most of their start as they collapsed completely. A two point raid by Deepak Kumar Dahiya saw Steelers take a 5-3 lead. They went out to inflict an all out in the first half on a struggling Delhi side. Haryana went on to dominate the half, to take a 17-9 lead going into the break.


A much-improved performance by Delhi in the second half, saw them put up a real fight. They went onto inflict an all out and continued to win points to peg the match back at 19-19. The match went to 24-24 Haryana Steelers gained an advantage as they got their act together in the next few minutes to lead 24-20 after 33 minutes. But Delhi was in no mood to give up as they leveled the match at 24-24 in the 37th minute before Surjeet Singh scored with a two-point in the 38th to hand Steelers the victory.


The match between Tamil Thalaivas and UP Yoddha was a tale of two halves. A fine performance by Thalaivas saw them race into the lead in the first half but Yoddha bounced back in the second to end the match at 33-33. Three raids in the last 10 seconds were the testament of the competitive nature of the match. Viewers were treated to a classic, which saw fine defence and attack from both the teams and the draw, in the end, was a credit to the grit and determination of both the teams.
