To be able to see all major tourist places in Agra, it is recommended to spend one night there. But, if have just one day in hand and making same day Agra trip, then the following will come in handy :
How to visit Agra: Agra to and from Delhi
– Take a morning Train from Delhi and return by the evening train
– Hire local auto rickshaw or cab for moving in and around the city.
– Book your train tickets well in advance.
– If you are not on a budget, hire a cab from Delhi. Start as early as possible to avoid city rush. If you are traveling in December or January, start little late as Yamuna Expressway has very dense fog which increases the chances of accidents as people often cross the maximum driving speed of @100kmph.
Taj Mahal (Friday closed)
Start your day with a trip to Taj Mahal. It would take you around 1.5 to 2 hours to cover places in and around the monument.
Taj Mahal to Agra Fort is about 2 km. If you are not traveling by private cab, auto rickshaws are easily available right outside the Agra Fort. Should take you about 20/25 minutes depending on the traffic.
Take a break for lunch. There are plenty of hotels around. But, if you want to enjoy food local style, head to Sadar Bazar. Enjoy the best of street food. One of the most popular eating joints is Mama Chicken Mama Franky, which has many outlets offering different kind of food like Non-veg, South Indian food, vegetarian food, burger joint and some more.
If you are already at the Sadar Bazar, you will find many shops in the area selling handicraft items and shoes. Don’t forget to buy the most famous sweet of Agra i.e. petha.
Back to Railway Station/Proceed for Delhi
Start in time for your return train. If you have come by cab, you can start even little late.
