Indian Government, to fund its plan to connect to smaller cities of the country has announced new fees that will be paid by airlines on popular routes, i.e, cheap flights…
If your flight is full, you’re unlikely to pay more than Rs. 50 each way and if all the seats are not sold out, you’ll pay an extra Rs. 100.
The Government has fixed three categories of payment;
Starting from Rs. 7500 for flight covering 1,000 km, Rs. 8000 for flight covering up to 1500 km and Rs. 8500 for distances above that.
The longer the flight, the higher the fee for airlines.
While announcing “Regional Connectivity Scheme” government pledged that flight that will have the duration of one hour would cost Rs 2500.
The scheme shall be introduced in January 2017.
To subsidize these cheap flights in under-serviced areas, it said a small levy would be introduced on existing routes to help pay for the scheme.
