North London club Arsenal and Leicester city provided one of the best opening matches of a premier league season in ages as both played out a thrilling match at the Emirates Stadium. An action pack match saw Arsenal edge past Leicester 4-3 courtesy of an 85th-minute winner by Olivier Giroud. Arsenal came from behind 3-2, to seal the win in the last 10 minutes of the game, that saw some shambolic defending by Leicester.
The much awaited new season of the Premier League kicked off on Friday in front of a buzzing Emirates Stadium on Friday. And what a match it was. The lead switched from side to side to prove why the Premier League is the most watched and the best in the world. Arsenal new signing Alexandre Lacazette had a dream start as he headed in his first premier league goal with only the second touch of his entire premier league career in the 2nd minute much to the delight of the Arsenal faithful. The tone for the remaining of the match was set early on as Okazaki jumped over a hapless Xhaka to head in and level the score for Leicester. Leicester grew in confidence from then on and went on to take the lead when Jamie Vardy scored. A struggling Arsenal, however, got back just at the right time, as Danny Welbeck tapped into an open goal to restore parity in the match for them right before the first half ended.
The second half lived up to the first half, as Vardy got his second of the match soon into the half to ping pong the lead back into Leicester’s hands. As Leicester rode out wave after wave of Arsenal attack it looked ever more likely that they would hand the first shock result of the season. Arsenal, however, showed their class to fight till the end and a late Ramsey goal inspired an unexpected victory for them sealed by Giroud’s brilliant header.
