Returning after a two-week hiatus which saw the UEFA Nations league take place, the premier league commenced with a roller coaster of a match. Saturday’s early kick-off saw Chelsea take on Manchester United in the showpiece clash of this gameweek.
Stamford Bridge saw its owners dominate for the entirety of the first 45 minutes, schooling Manchester United. Toying with their visitors, Chelsea pulled the strings of the match, dictating the pace of the match and enjoying themselves on the field. It didn’t take long for Sarri’s side to race into the lead with Antonio Rudiger getting on the end of a Willian cross to head in the home a powerful header. With a goal in the bag, Chelsea went about passing the ball fluidly, doing everything good that happened during the first half as a pathetic Manchester United side failed to play football.
Getting complacent come the second half, Chelsea were a pale shadow of the side that had dominated proceedings in the first. With players moving out of position, Chelsea’s back-line lose its shape to let it two abysmal goals, completely against the flow of play to Martial. However this year Chelsea has shown a fighting spirit that bespeaks world-class sides. Never out of the match, kept Chelsea fighting till the end to get an equaliser via Ross Barkley just before the final whistle. The win saw Chelsea emerge out of the match as the only English side to remain unbeaten across all competitions this season, a record that emphasises the transformation Sarri has brought to the side with his eye-catching playing style.
Saturday also saw the rest of the top 4 in play. While Tottenham and Liverpool slogged out unconvincing 1-0 wins against West Ham and Huddersfield respectively, Manchester City’s 5-0 beating of Burnley was the highlight of the day.
The defending champions were in full flow as they played their enigmatic, quick feet football that blizkertized their visitors. Raking up five past Burnley, City delighted us with a well-rounded performance that was another stamp on their title credentials.
This was a week that was filled with goals and beautiful, brilliant attack-minded football. Arsenal treated us to another goal fest with the side registering a 3-1 win against Leicester to take their winning streak to 10 matches.
Struggling in the first half, Arsenal bounced back well to make a well-deserved comeback into the match. The third goal was mesmerizing, a 15 man move that keeps getting better with every replay. Rounded off by Aubameyang, the goal highlighted the transition that Arsenal has seen this season, one that has finally seen them put they’re attacking forwards to good use.
At the bottom of the table, there was movement with Cardiff finally trudging out of the bottom 3 with a 4-2 win against Fulham at home for their first win of the season. The defeat dragged Cardiff into the bottom three who give company to non-movers Huddersfield and Newcastle who are yet to win a match this season.
