Chelsea made 3 changes and so had Jose Mourinho. Chelsea went with the 3-4-2-1 while Tottenham opted for the 5-4-1.
Chelsea was raring to go, nicking off the loose balls, and sharp passing all around. Chelsea was definitely looking the better team as Tottenham had been neglectful with their passes and were almost feeding the Chelsea strikers with the passes on goal. The first breakthrough came in the 15th minute when Giroud hit a sweet shot on the rebound.

Tottenham had completely switched off once the Barkley shot came off the bar. The defenders just turned their backs on the ball and Giroud punished them for it. Caballero had to scamper back along his line to clear before Bergwijn. Barkley had a few more chances but he hit them wide, and thus, the Spurs were able to show their colors in the last quarter of the first half but were not able to level.
In the second half, Chelsea had not taken their foot off the accelerator and again found the back of the net in the 48th minute. Lo Celso should have been red-carded for a stomping movement on Alonso’s foot but the VAR ruled it as non-violent conduct and reasoned it with “He had no place to put his foot down”.

The Spurs had been putting in an underwhelming performance and no positive could be drawn from it. Looks like Mourinho was missing his golden boys. Lamela found the net in the 89th minute when Lamela’s run was unchecked and Antonio rolled the ball in. Lloris made a fine save to a Tommy Abraham shot preventing Chelsea from going 3-0 up. The final score was 2-1. Chelsea went 4 points clear off a lackluster poor-performing Tottenham. There was just a very negative approach to the game by Tottenham. It was very difficult to find positives in that performance by Tottenham.
