With a sea of red army covering the stadium, it was clear who people had turned out to watch. Liverpool lived up to the expectations of the huge crowd as they put in a clinical and dominating performance to win the match and eventually the Premier League Asia Trophy. A second pre-season goal from record signing Mohamed Salah and a superb effort from man-of-the-match Philippe Coutinho helped power Jurgen Klopp’s side to victory. Coutinho scored the goal of the tournament after drifting in from the left in an almost trademark fashion, before unleashing a terrific swerving effort beyond the outstretched arms of Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel and into the top right corner to seal the victory with one minute of the first half to play.
Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum was all smiles with the victory.
“We came in the preseason to do good things in the game. You’re happy if everything goes well. They told me I could play any position in midfield. I just focus in midfield when he [Klopp} needs me,” said the Dutchman.
In the third-place play-off, Crystal Palace defeated West Bromwich Albion 2-0 with goals from Luka Milivojevic and Bakary Sako.
