Tottenham’s Lucas Moura and Watford’s Javi Garcia were rewarded for their fine work in the month of August in the Premier League Awards 2018 with the player of the month and manager of the month award respectively. Both figures were quintessential to their sides in the four matches their team played last month.
Coming back to Premier League Awards 2018, playing as a second striker for Tottenham, Moura shone throughout the month for Tottenham. His blistering pace and fine finishes saw him bag home a neat 4 goals in 4 matches for his side. A successful spell for him saw him score in his team’s opening two matches of the premier league before going onto destroying Manchester United with two fine finishes.
Used as a partner for Harry Kane by Mauricio Pochettino, Moura who didn’t have the best start to life in England last season, fit in his new role perfectly. His movement saw him involved in the opponent’s third half immensely, causing all sorts of problems for the opponent’s defence. Using his rapid speed, Moura stretched open defences as he combined well with Kane to become a lethal force for his side.
“I’m so happy because I know it’s not easy to win this trophy and August was a great month for me and also for the team,” said Lucas. “I share this with my teammates and with my family and I’ll keep working because this is only the beginning.
The other major award was handed out to Watford manager Javi Garcia who guided his team to their best ever start in the premier league. The Spaniard won all four of his opening matches to extend his record at home to 21 unbeaten matches since he took over in January. Watford is only one of the three unbeaten teams in the premier league, joining the elite likes of Chelsea and Liverpool.
Coincidentally enough it was Javi Garcia’s side that defeated Moura’s Tottenham in the last match before the international break. It was a victory that spoke volumes about Watford. Trailing against a strong Tottenham side, they managed to come back to win 2-1 courtesy of their attacking football that has seen them earn plaudits from all quarters this season.
“I am very pleased,” said Garcia. “This award is a consequence of results in games we have played and that comes from the work of everyone here.
“We are a good family,” added the Spaniard. “It’s important not to look at the end of the road, but to enjoy the journey as well.”
“When you start something you must think you can do it, but it is always more difficult in reality.”
