Premier League clubs spend record £150m In Winter Transfer Window

The winter transfer window finally came to a close after a frantic deadline day that saw clubs going all out to strengthen their teams. It was a frantic day with clubs agents and players on the move to seal their preferred moves. The most exciting transfer of the day was the merry-go-round of strikers between Arsenal, Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund which saw Aubameyang, Giroud and Batshauyi move to the respective clubs. It was a record window for the premier league who spent 150m pounds on transfers. Premier League clubs’ spending far outweighed that of their European counterparts but Barcelona ended up paying the biggest fee of the January window when they bought Brazil playmaker Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool in a deal that could be worth £142m. For the premier league, Liverpool ended up paying the most for defender Virgil Van Dijk as they shelled out 75m for his services from Southampton.


London club Arsenal had the busiest of transfer windows which is a surprise given the cringe nature of their owners and manager. After seeing their main player Sanchez move to Manchester United in a swap deal that saw Mkhitaryan move the other way, they upped their efforts to sign another attacking player as they chased Aubameyang. They ended up getting their man for a club record fee after Chelsea secured signing their striker Olivier Giroud on an 18 months contract. Their London rivals and current premier league champions Chelsea also brought in Ross Barkley and Emerson Palmeiri in the window with fellow Londoners Tottenham securing the move of Lucas Moura from French giants PSG. Current table toppers Manchester City ended up signing Laporte for 65m to take
