Coming back to Premier League Complete Wrap, Gameweek 6 of the premier league saw only Liverpool maintain their 100% winning record. Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Southampton at Anfield and Chelsea’s 0-0 draw to West Ham meant that Liverpool is the only team in England’s top 4 leagues to have won all their league games till now. Meanwhile, Manchester City stayed hot on Liverpool’s tail with a 5-0 thrashing of new boys Cardiff City.

The early kick-off saw Liverpool take on Southampton, a club they have been emptying over the years. Infamously being termed as Liverpool’s academy, Southampton who has over the years sold a hoard of their best players to Liverpool looked to put in a performance that would help restore some of their lost pride against Liverpool.

Defeating Liverpool especially at Anfield is no mean feat and Southampton learnt this the hard way. Buoyed by their last-gasp win against PSG in the champions league, Liverpool rode the wave to finish off Southampton in the first half itself. An own goal by Hoedt was followed up by Matip latching onto a corner before Salah finally broke his mini-drought to get Liverpool’s three. Completely in control of the game, Liverpool pulled the strings in the second half as they kept most of the ball, playing in second gear for much of the second 45 minutes with Southampton giving up all hopes of a result.

Saturday saw Manchester City continue to build the pressure on Liverpool with an emphatic victory of their own. Travelling to Cardiff, City who was still bruising their wounds of a champions league defeat against Lyon responded in a style that is befitting of champions. Putting five past a helpless Cardiff, City moved into the second spot.

The match left more serious ramifications for Cardiff though whose troubles have continued to mount this season. The premier league journey has been far from kind to them. No cohesion in defence and a barren run in front of goal has left Cardiff rock-bottom of the premier league. A change in fortunes is needed and needed quickly for the Welsh side who have without a doubt looked the worst side till now in 2018-19.

Talking about promoted sides we shift to Wolverhampton who put in a superb performance away to Manchester United. The best side to make the transition from championship football to premiership football, Wolverhampton has been a delight this season. Their quick, fluid play and willingness to attack throughout the 90 have been complemented by a defence that has been quick to adapt to the premier league. Troubling a poor and pathetic Manchester United throughout the match, Wolverhampton took the game to their opponents to come out with a very well deserved point with a 1-1 draw.

Come Sunday, Chelsea were left disappointed with a draw against West Ham. The derby match was never going to be easy for Sarri’s side especially after their long Europa League trip to Greece and West Ham compounded Chelsea’s troubles by putting in a rivalry-match worthy performance. Despite having lion’s share of the ball and creating the bulk of the chances, Chelsea lacked the killer instinct in front of goal which left them frustrated on the day and saw them return with a 0-0 scoreline.

The match did see one positive outcome for Chelsea with Jorginho recording the most passes ever in a premier league with a massive 180 passes.
