The match started with Burnley putting on a spirited performance in the opening minutes. Seeing of the initial storm that fell their way, Chelsea took no time in finding their footing in the match, going ahead via Alvaro Morata. That goal opened the flood-gates with Chelsea proving too hot to handle. With Sarriball in full flow and Chelsea’s youth shining it was a day of perfect football for the London outfit who saw Barkley, Willian and Loftus-cheek get the rest of the goals, each a work of magic to complete a 4-0 win for Chelsea.
Chelsea’s nearest competitors on the table, Liverpool also got a comprehensive win for themselves. Controlling the entire proceedings, Liverpool were in a spot of bother for 5 minutes after Cardiff pegged one back in the 71st minute. Restoring their lead soon after with Shaqiri getting their third, Liverpool wrapped up what was a comfortable win for them with Mane getting his second to see the home side win 4-1.
The showpiece event of the gameweek came on Monday with the best match of the week is saved for last. Marked by a shambolic Wembley pitch which had seen an NFL match being played on it the day before, a match of such stature was let down a little by the poor conditions at hand. This didn’t manage to take away from the big game aura though that always surrounds a clash of such magnitude, with both the sided playing out a decent match.
It was a match that was run by Manchester City for most of the duration. Taking an early lead through Riyadh Mahrez, City played scintillating football, only to be let down by their finishing. Struggling to cope with the visitors, Tottenham finally managed to scrape up something meaningful in the final 10 minutes to give an exciting finish to the way.
Their best chance of the game fell to Lamella who should have equalized for the hosts. Completely messing up a sitter, Lamella scooped an easy chance over the goal to ensure City left with all three points in their kitty and with their first place intact.
Moving away from the top 5, we take a look at Bournemouth’s result. This season’s wonder side put in another attacking masterclass to dismiss Fulham 3-0 and move as high as 6th in the points table. While it was all joy and merry for them, it was gloom and dark yet again for Fulham, Huddersfield, and Newcastle who continued making up the relegation spots.
