Having slipped up massively, losing huge ground in the title race on the back of some below par and sluggish performances in the league, Liverpool needed to get back to winning ways in gameweek 26 and show everyone that the recent lapses weren’t going to crumble away their bid for the coveted trophy. And that is just what they got about doing, with a much-improved showing seeing them hardly being perturbed on their way to a resounding 3-0 win at home, one that was made ever so important given that they played before City this week.
Knowing that the onus was up to them to keep up with Liverpool, Manchester City showed just how determined and hungry they are for the title this year. After enduring a slump in December, they’ve been in untouchable form ever since, winning 10 of their last 11 encounters and when Chelsea visited they showed just why they are once again being considered at the frontrunners for the title.
In what was expected to be a tough and stern match for City, especially with Chelsea having incurred their bad run after condemning them to their first defeat this season, City put on a masterclass, a performance worthy of asserting their mammoth title credentials. Making most of the individual blunders by Chelsea, City showed that it is fine margins like these that count in such huge encounters with the mercurial Aguero recording his 11th hattrick in the league to batter Chelsea.
Elsewhere in the top 6, Arsenal was lucky to manage to come away with a win from relegation battlers Huddersfield. Put under the clutch in the second half by the home side, Arsenal just managed to hold onto a one-goal lead after putting in yet another perplexing show at the back, one that almost cost them the three points. However, their injury time conceded goal continued their unsavory record of being the only side this season not to have kept a clean sheet away from home.

At the bottom, injury time brought alive Southampton and Cardiff City’s match with Southampton equalising before their opponents hit right back in the dying seconds of the game to steal a result away from them. The result had huge ramifications with the defeat seeing Southampton relinquish their 17th place to Cardiff City and in return occupying their relegation place spot.
The week came to an end with Wolverhampton scoring their fifth injury time goal this season to scalp a much-deserved point against Newcastle United. The goal spoke volumes about the makeup of one of the most impressive sides this season, seeing them score the most number of goals in injury time, four of which has resulted in wins for them.
