Coming back to Pro Kabaddi League 2018-19 matches highlights, Delhi bounced back in style at home with a fine performance against Puneri Paltan seeing a 35-24 win in the second match of the day on Sunday. Meanwhile Zone A toppers U Mumba showed why they were enjoying such a fine 2018-19 with an impressive defensive performance against second-placed Gujarat Fortunegiants taking them to a 36-26 win in the day’s opening match.
The Thyagraj Sports Complex was treated to a fine day of Kabaddi in the Pro Kabaddi League with two matches that witnessed the best of defending and attacking. Giving Gujarat a lesson in defending was Mumbai who scripted their first ever win against Gujarat in what was a defensive masterclass by them.
Taking just four minutes to inflict the first all-out of the match and race into a 9-4 lead after displaying fantastic defensive organisation and cohesion, U Mumba set the tone for what was to follow on the night. Despite Gujarat fighting back to go into the break at 17-14, Mumbai’s organisation was too tough to break for them in the second.
Not giving an inch away, U Mumba played out their tactics and strategy to perfection. Excellent communication between their tacklers saw them maintain their shape and concentration throughout the match with Dharmaraj Cheralathan (6 points) and Rohit Rana (5 points) guiding the side to a famous victory. U Mumba scored a total of 16 tackle points, overshadowing the performance of their raiders.
Opening up a 10 point lead in the 29th minute, Mumbai raced away into a lead that Gujarat found impossible to catch. In no mood to relinquish their lead, U Mumba forced a super tackle and collected a couple of more tackle points in the last five minutes of the match.
The second match of the day saw Dabang Delhi treat a capacity home crowd to a power packed performance. Buoyed by a crowd that made their support for the hosts apparent, letting no chance go to cheer their side to the fullest, Delhi played out a scrumptious brand of Kabaddi, dominating in both offence and defence.
In a match that was of vital importance to both sides, Delhi closed the gap over Pune to two points to reach 45 points and sit fourth in Zone A, behind third-place Pune who is on 47.
Leading 11-4, Delhi’s match was epitomised with Naveen winning a fantastic raid in a do or die point. Scrambling back from the clutches of Paltan’s tacklers, Naveen scrambled back into his half of the mat as the crowd erupted in joy, appreciating the efforts of the raider who had earlier helped inflict the first all out on Pune.
From there on the match was dominated by Delhi who maintained their sublime form, not allowing Paltan even a sniff back. Getting their second all-out of the match in the closing moments of the game, Delhi romped to a comfortable 35-24 win.
