Raid is the second most successful weekend opener of 2018, Film inspired by a true story

Raid is going strong in theaters. The film is a period crime thriller film, written by Ritesh Shah and directed by Raj Kumar Gupta, of Aamir and No one can Kill Jessica fame. The film has Ajay Devgan in a lead role, opposite Ileana D’Cruz and Saurabh Shukla. The film is inspired by the real life of an income Tax officer in Lucknow, in 1981.

The movie has made 41 Rs Crore in the first weekend box office collection. It is the become second biggest weekend opener after the period film of Sanjay Leela Bhansali Padmavat. Raid had a slow start on Friday with just Rs 10 Crore , However, the turnover rapidly increased over the next two days by making Rs 13.86 crore on Saturday and 17.11 crore on Sunday. Monday being a weekday, but the movie still managed to earn around Rs.6.26 Crores. The character of Saurabh Shukla and Ajay Devgan are being loved by the audience. Ileana D’Cruz is also being appreciated for her work.Raid 3 is also expected to gain more success with in the next few weeks.

Over the past few months, there have been many movies based on the true stories which have gone on to become a huge hit, like PadMan which was based on the story of social entrepreneur Arunachalam Muruganantham, Padmaavat a period war film based on a true story from the history of India. The success of Raid is proving that there’s still scope for such films and the Indian audiences are evolving day by day and have become open to movies which are more than just the masala films.
