The group stage action of the Ranji Trophy came to a close, giving us this year’s eight teams to make it to the first knock-out stages of the frontier Indian domestic test tournament. Topping Elite Group C with 7 wins and 51 points was Rajasthan who also became the first side to seal their qualification for the quarter-finals of the event. Joining them were five teams from the top Elite Groups A and B. Vidarbha (29), Saurashtra (29), Karnataka (27), Gujarat (26) qualified from group A while Kerala (26) with more outright wins (4) than Baroda (26 points, 3 wins) have qualified from group B.
According to this edition’s format, the floundering Ranji Trophy saw a record number of teams participate in the tournament, five teams were supposed to qualify for quarter-finals from the first two groups (A and B) as per the points earned while two from group C and one from group D joined them for the last eight stage. The groups composed of 9 teams each, saw the last placed sides in Group A and B in Chhattisgarh and Delhi respectively relegated to Group C.

Table toppers Uttarakhand in the Elite group with 6 wins and 44 points qualified for the quarter-finals and also earned promotion to Elite Group C for the 2019-20 season.
