Real Madrid vs Real Valladolid – Real Madrid ended its first home game of the season with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Real Valladolid. The scoreline didn’t justify the way the two teams played and how it exactly went down on the pitch. James Rodriguez was a surprise starter as he came in for his first appearance after leaving the club to join Bayern Munich on loan for two seasons in the summer of 2017. Real Madrid played superbly with Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Isco, and James combining to create loads of chances. Valladolid looked pretty shaky until James was substituted in the second half.

Real Madrid’s confidence grew after the first half as Real started to push further while leaving spaces and open gaps in the defence. Sergi Guardiola slid in at the far post but wasn’t able to score with Courtois beaten with just over 10 minutes left. It looked like that miss would prove costly as Karim Benzema received a ball from Raphael Varane shortly afterwards. Raphael turned and fired a low shot past Masip to make it 1-0 after 81 minutes giving the Los Blancos a lead. For a match that was so open since the beginning, the opening goal took a lot of time.
