Kohli said that a year’s wait will be too long.  We won’t do that.  In one-day matches which have limited hours, our team has depth and the players are full of confidence.  It is needed in Test cricket as well.

Kohli also said that there is a need to understand the team by looking afresh.  After which a plan has to be made and see what is effective for the team.  And, how can we play fearless.  The right people have to be brought in who come with the right mindset to perform well.

He asked the batsmen to strike a balance between taking the necessary risks and staying at the crease.  He said, ‘The focus should be on scoring runs, not on worrying about losing wickets.  This is the only way to put pressure on the opposing team.  Otherwise, you will always play with the fear of getting out. You have to take well-planned risks.

Indian captain Virat Kohli may have described New Zealand as deserving of victory in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, but the question that must arise in front of him is why under his captaincy the Indian team has failed on the big stage so far?  The last time India won any ICC tournament was the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013 under Dhoni’s leadership.  Since then, the Indian team has been able to reach the finals and semi-finals of ICC tournaments but could not win any major trophy even once.

Let us tell you that in the first WTC Final on Wednesday, India had to face defeat by 8 wickets at the hands of New Zealand.  India had set a modest target of 139 runs in front of New Zealand.  India could score only 170 runs in the second innings, New Zealand took a 32 run lead after scoring 249 runs in response to India’s 217 in the first innings.

Talking about ‘The Ultimate Test’, the lack of practice was clearly visible in the performance of the Indian team.  The experienced Kohli, Rohit, Pujara and Rahane failed to perform well with the bat while the same Bumrah also looked ineffective with the ball.  Bumrah was seen struggling with the ball throughout the match and could not even take a wicket in both the innings. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja also could not create magic with both the ball and the bat.

Jadeja scored 15 runs in the first innings and 16 runs in the second innings.  He took a total of one wicket in the match.  Although Mohammed Shami and veteran bowler Ishant Sharma, who has played more than 100 Test matches for India, did well in the first innings by taking 4 and 3 wickets respectively, but in the second innings both the bowlers could not take a single wicket.  Ravichandran Ashwin’s performance was fine, Ashwin took a total of 4 wickets in the match by taking 2-2 wickets in the first and second innings.

Question mark on batting

In an important match like the final, any team expects its experienced batsmen to score runs.  Team India has experienced batsmen like Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane.  But it proved to be a complete flop.  Pujara’s bat remained silent in both the innings of the match.  He scored 8 runs in the first innings and 15 runs in the second innings.

Captain Virat Kohli was definitely in touch in the first innings, he played an innings of 44 runs.  But his bat did not work in the second innings.  Kyle Jameson made him his victim on a personal score of 13 runs.  At the same time, Rahane could only score 49 runs in the first innings and 15 runs in the second innings.  These three batsmen were also flops in the home Test series against England.
