It is now, the largest company in India by revenue, after surpassing the Indian Oil Corporation. RIL, on 22 June 2020, became the first Indian company to exceed US$150 billion in market capitalization after the company hit Rs 11,43,667 crores on BSE. The company is also listed on NSE. The Global Depository Receipts issued by RIL are listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange.

Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani, chairman, MD, and the largest shareholder of RIL, is the richest Asian with a net worth of US$81.1 billion. Born on 19 April 1957 in the British Crown colony of Aden to Dhirubhai Ambani and Kokilaben Ambani, he has a younger brother, Anil Ambani, and two sisters, Nina Bhadrashyam Kothari and Dipti Dattaraj Salgaocar. Mukesh Ambani studied at the Hill Grange High School and St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai after which he attained his BE degree in Chemical Engineering from the Institute of Chemical Technology. He then enrolled himself for an MBA at Stanford University but withdrew in 1980 to help build Reliance with his father. There have been many ups and downs in their businesses over the years but in the end, the company sustained. Today, we know him and RIL as the most successful enterprise in India. Reliance Jio launched by the group changed the face of the internet in India completely making phones and the internet accessible to millions of Indians. RIL ranked #96 in Fortune Global 500 in 2020. Reliance Retail topped the list of fastest-growing retailers globally in Deloitte’s Global Powers of Retailing Report. Apart from Indian, the group has also bagged numerous international awards.

One of the IPL teams, Mumbai Indians, is also part of the reliance group. Through Reliance Foundation, the group is involved in a huge number of CSR activities and has cumulatively touched the lives of around 15 million people in over 13500 villages and urban locations.
