Ronaldo Wins Fifth Ballon d’Or To Equal Messi’s Record

Cristiano Ronaldo wrapped up one of the best seasons of his life in style as he took home the prestigious Ballon d’Or award for the fifth time in his career at a star-studded ceremony. The Portuguese superstar was voted the best player in the world once again, winning his second consecutive award at the ceremony that was attended by the who whose in world football in Paris. Ronaldo won his first prize in 2008 before successes in 2013, 2014 and 2016. It was another grand night for him at the foot of the Eiffel Tower which goes along perfectly with those he had in Madrid, Málaga and Munich, and in Cardiff 

 

The win for Ronaldo was least surprising though with Ronaldo 100% sure to win the biggest award in international football on the back of his achievements in the last year. The news was all but confirmed after pictures had emerged of Ronaldo’s new Nike boots with ‘Quinto Triunfo’ (fifth triumph) stitched into them.Winning a plethora of team, club and personal awards, Ronaldo proved once again by taking home the Ballon d’Or that just why perhaps he has edged past Lionel Messi in the race of all time’s best footballer. Messi and Neymar made up the remaining two spots in the top 3 to seal a very well deserving top 3.

 

“I feel very happy, it’s a fantastic moment in my career,” Ronaldo said, standing with his mother Maria Dolores and his oldest son Cristiano Jr. “I’ve waited a long time for this. This has been a stupendous year for me, we won the Champions League and La Liga and on a personal level, I was top scorer in the Champions League.
