saroj khan news – Saroj Khan was one of the most prominent dance choreographers in Bollywood. Born on 22nd November 1948 in Bombay, her career lasted over 40 years. She has choreographed over 2000 songs and is also called ‘The mother of Dance in India’. Sadly, on 3rd July 2020, at 1:52 AM, she left for the heavenly aboard due to cardiac arrest.
On June 17, 2020, Saroj Khan was admitted to Guru Nanak Hospital at Bandra, Mumbai, citing breathing complaints. While she was tested negative for COVID-19, she had severe diabetes and related illness. The legendary choreographer is now survived by her husband, B Sohanlal, her son, Hamid Khan, and her daughters, Hina Khan and Sukyna Khan.

After the partition of India, Saroj Khan Ji’s parents migrated to India. It was then that she started her career as a child artist, at the age of 3 years in ‘Nazarana’. In the late 1950s, she worked as a background dancer. Her learning of dance began while she was working under B Sohanlal, who was a film choreographer himself.
She married him at the age of 13 years when he was 43 years and had 4 children, which she wasn’t aware of when she married him. Saroj Khan later shifted to choreography, first as an assistant choreographer and then independently. Her career as an independent choreographer began with ‘Geeta Mera Naam’ in 1974.

From there on she waited several years to receive acclaim. Her major breakthrough came when she worked with Sridevi in ‘Nagina’ in 1986, ‘Hawa Hawai’ from ‘Mr. India’ in 1987, and ‘Chandni’ in 1989. Saroj Ji then worked with Madhuri Dixit, whereafter she became one of the most successful choreographers of Bollywood.

From there on, there was no turning back. She made appearances on several reality dance shows and even had her own show where she choreographed songs for people to learn. In 2012, her documentary was also released. It was named ‘The Saroj Khan Story’ and was produced by PSBT and Films Division of India. It was directed by Nidhi Tuli.
