Shani Puja is performed on any Saturday, Shani Jayanti or Shani Amavasya. Shani Jayanti is the day when Lord Shani (Lord Saturn) was born to Surya Dev and Chaaya Devi. The puja or Pooja is organized on Saturday during the Pradoshakaalam, which is considered the most auspicious time to perform the Shani Worship.

- It is believed that if the position of planet Saturn is better in a horoscope as compared to other planets, then one gets a prosperous life.
- Devotees fast and offer black clothes, sesame seeds, sesame oil and black gram to Lord Saturn.
- It is believed that chanting “Om Shaneshwaraya Namah” and reading Shani Chalisa is beneficial on this day.
- This day holds great significance to people whose horoscope is afflicted by Saturn. People believe that offering sincere prayers on this day can give immense relief to those facing various problems due to the placement of Shani in their horoscope.
- On this day, all rituals related to Lord Saturn are performed with great devotion to please him.
- Shingnapur in Maharashtra and Thirunallar in Tamil Nadu are two widely known Shani temples.
- Pujas performed at these temples are popular for providing immediate relief to the devotees.
- As per the mythological legends of India, Lord Shani is always shown riding a chariot. He carries a bow and an arrow in one hand and the chariot is pulled by a crow or a vulture wearing blue colored clothes.
- At times, Lord Shani is also seen in black clothing while holding a sword, arrow and two daggers, pulled by a crow.
