Rahi and Saurabh wins world cup gold. On 28 May 2019, Rahi Sarnobat, 28, a girl from Kolhapur added the 3rd gold in India’s medals tally at the ISSF World Cup 2019 in Munich. She secured the top position in the 25 meter pistol event and has reserved herself a place in the Tokyo Olympics.
In 2013, Rahi became the first Indian pistol shooter to win a World Cup gold. She secured her 2nd gold by topping the women’s 25m pistol final. She has also won a World Cup bronze and became the first Indian woman pistol shooter to win gold at the Asian Games in 2018.
India is now at the top in the list of the Munich World Cup medals tally with 3 gold. China is at the second position with 1 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.
Rahi not only made the country proud but also helped India to win its sixth quota place in shooting for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
In the women’s final match, another Indian, Manu Bhaker had a better start than Rahi. Manu scored five out of five hits in the first of 10 series of five shots each.
Rahi started with three hits. After the 6th series, Manu, Rahi and Olena Kostevych (Ukraine) were jointly tied at the top with a score of 21. Manu eliminated in the 5th position. However, Rahi kept getting stronger and scored 5s in the 8th and 9th series to finish with 37 points. Olena got silver with 36 and Bulgarian Antoaneta Boneva won the second quota by winning the bronze with a score of 26.
Both Rahi and Manu had a solid rapid-fire round in the two-day qualifying round where Rahi shot 292, following up her Sunday’s precision round score of 294 for a total of 586, which took her in the fourth place. Manu shot 296 for a total of 585, placing her in 5th position in the 105-strong field.

Saurabh Chaudhary, the 17-year-old boy made the country proud once again as he achieved a gold in the 10 meter Air Pistol category. He broke his own world record of 245 by shooting 246.3 points in the final match. It was the second gold medal at the ISSF World Cup 2019 for India after Apurvi Chandela secured it.
Saurabh set a new world at the season’s third ISSF World Cup in Munich. Silver medalist Russian Artem Chernousov, a world champion silver medalist 2018, had scored lesser in the 9s in the 24-shot. Saurav beat him by three points in the eventual standings. He finished with a 246.3 to Artem’s 243.8.
