Here are some Shreyas Iyer facts and records.
Handed over the captaincy of the capital-based franchisee in the Indian Premier League, Mumbai based batsman Shreyas Iyer has been given charge of the side by the new look ownership. Ever since Gautam Gambhir stepped down last season owing to a lacklustre season, Iyer who was made captain midseason has been kept as captain of revamped and refurbished Delhi Capitals unit who look to put behind years of disappointment in the marquee tournament for them.
Coming from a successful Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in which he represented the Mumbai side, Iyer will be looking to continue his form into the biggest club T20 tournament in the world. He makes up part of what is a young but promising Delhi batting line-up and will be looking to earmark himself in the eyes of the selectors with a rampant showing.

- Captained the Mumbai side in the Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Was made the captain of the Delhi Capitals in the middle of the 2018 season and held onto the role for the 2019 campaign as well. He is currently on a package of Rs 7 crore per year for the capital-based franchisee.

- Yet to play a game for India at the international level in the longest format of the game, Iyer’s closest call to wearing the Indian colours came when Australia visited India in 2017. Hitting a double century against the visitors in a practice match, Iyer was eventually picked up in the squad for the final match of the series after Virat Kohli sustained an injury but failed to make it to the playing XI.
- 2017 though did see Iyer get his first game for the country in the ODI format after he was chosen for a match against Sri Lanka in the country. He has also played a solitary T20 match for India against New Zealand in Delhi, a match which Delhi went onto win after putting on their highest ever score against New Zealand in a T20 match.
- Iyer’s biggest cause of concern which has hindered his growth at the international level is his languishing inconsistency which has never seen him being able to cement a spot in the side. He remains hopeful of breaking into the Indian team as a number 4 batsman and looks forward to the ongoing season of the IPL to provide a breakthrough into the setup.
