Sourav Ganguly tenure extension news – Sourav Ganguly contested the elections for the top post of the BCCI in October 2019. He was voted unanimously as the perfect candidate for the post of President. Then began his journey as the top administrator of the apex cricketing body in India.

Regarding the contracts on domestic players, Ganguly said that it would be the first thing on business as domestic players are the potential rockstars of Indian Cricket. He said that it was where Dhonis, Kohlis, Rahanes and Rohit Sharmas of Indian Cricket are found. He also said that it would be his first priority to get the structure and finances of the domestic contract of players sorted out. They would focus on the financial health of the first-class cricketers by setting up a finance committee for the contract system.

But what actually happened is that to date no contracts have been offered to any of the first-class cricketers. In fact, the finances of the players have become worse amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Ganguly’s view on the function of BCCI was that it had to be the best in order for cricket in India to thrive. What actually happened is that at present, BCCI is without a Vice President. The CEO and COO of BCCI, COO of NCA, and BCCI Manager of Cricket Operations also resigned before the end of their respective tenures. Their positions are either lying vacant or being occupied by some interim post holders.

Ganguly wanted to organize cricket for the differently-abled. He said that if the organizations and BCCI came together, it could be hosted successfully. Ganguly during his term invited several associations of differently-abled cricketers to organize some ties. But since then no action has been taken in this regard.

Ganguly said that the BCCI would be looking at the funding of the ICA ( Indian Cricketers Association). BCCI did grant them a fund of Rs.2 Crores although they initially promised a much greater amount.

There has been some talk regarding Women’s Cricket Selection Panel. Ganguly had said that since CAC doesn’t nominate people for the Selection Panel of Women’s Cricket, it was the BCCI’s job to fill up the Panel. BCCI did invite applications for the Selection Committee, but several candidates have said that they didn’t receive any correspondence in this regard. Other events that could be highlighted under his reign include Day-Night Test Match that India hosted against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. BCCI noted that viewership for the match significantly increased as compared to other Test Matches.
