South Africa squad for India tour 2019 – South Africa will tour India for the 3 test matches and 3 T20 International series. Here is the announcement made by the Proteas revealing their squad details.

In the test matches, South Africa will be led by their regular captain, Faf Du Plessis. He has quashed the possibility of a change in the leadership role in African Cricket. With Faf as the skipper of the team, Temba Bavuma will be the vice-captain of the South African team for the red cricket series. South Africa has also added some new names in their 15 member squad. Fast bowler, Anrich Nortje, wicket-keeper batsman, Rudi Second, and the spin bowler, Senuran Muthusamy might make their Test debut on this tour to India.

Anrich Nortje is the fast bowler from South Africa’s domestic team, Warriors. He is said to replace the mighty, Dale Steyn. Nortje has been a forced selection due to the retirement of Dale Steyn from test matches. He was selected in the squad for the world cup 2019 but, his fractured thumb made him sit out of the tournament.

The spinner, Muthusamy has been selected to tackle the subcontinent surface. South Africa is expected to tackle the pitches here in India which is why they have drafted 3 spinners Muthusamy, Keshav Maharaj, and Dane Piedt in their line up.

The 24-year-old opening batsman, Zubayr Hamza is expected to fill in the big shoes of the Mighty Hash. The retirement of South Africa’s premier opening batsman, Hashim Amla has opened to welcome a new member in their test team. Zubayr Hamza is the top-order batsman. He made his debut against Pakistan at the Wanders stadium. In that match, he was the replacement to skipper Faf Du Plessis. The newcomers in the team are selected on the basis of their impressive performance in the four-day Franchise competition.

The 15 member test squad of South Africa for the tour of India are –  

Dean Elgar, Aiden Markram, Faf Du Plessis, Zubayr Hamsa, Quinton De Kock, Tema Bavuma, Keshav Maharaj, Theunis de Bruyn, Lungisan Ngidi, Vernon Philander, Kagiso Rabada, Dane Piedt and Rudi Second.

In the T20 International series, Dale Steyn, Aiden Markram, and Lungisan Ngidi have not been selected. Steyn has been ignored despite his readiness to play in the shorter format of the game.

On this tour, South Africa will try and explore the leadership and batting options. Faf Du Plessis hasn’t been considered for the 3 match T20 International series. But he will still be an important member of the limited-overs series. Faf is still a vital part of South Africa’s white-ball plans. The team of the T20I series will be led by the wicket-keeper opening batsman, Quinton De Kock. Rassie van der Dussen is named as the vice-captain. Dussen earned back the contract of South African Cricket after his good performance in the 2019 world cup.

Chris Morris is not available for the T20I series against India. But South Africa has selected Bavuma, Nortje and the all-rounder, Bjorn Fortuin for the T20I set up for South Africa. Bavuma, Nortje, and Bjorn are newcomers.

The 15 member Squad for the 3 match T20 International series are –

Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, Temba Bavuma, Junior Dala, Bjorn Fortuin, Beuran Hendricks, Reeza Hendricks, David Miller, Anrich Nortje, Andile Phehlukwayo, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, Jon-Jon Smuts.
