Special about Independence Day 2020 – On every 15 August, India celebrates its freedom from British rule. This day is celebrated as a national holiday in India. India got independence from British rule on 15 August 1947. This year, India is celebrating its 74th Independence Day. On this day there are celebrations with flag hoisting, speeches, and cultural programs across the country. Independence Day marks the bravery and courage of our freedom fighters. Special about India Independence Day 2020

Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Independence Day celebrations in India will be different from the previous years. With less than a week to go for Independence Day 2020, preparations are underway across the country and authorities are enforcing special precautionary measures in wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.The main ceremony at the Red Fort in Delhi will be celebrated under certain preventive measures.

Special about Independence Day 2020

Ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, elaborate security arrangements have been made by the Delhi Police. The union home ministry has said that Independence Day programs will be organized in a way to avoid a large congregation of people and technology will be used in the best possible manner for the celebration of the occasion.

As per the order by the MHA released on 24 July, the Independence Day celebrations in Delhi will consist of the following:

  • The ceremony at Red Fort consisting of the presentation of a Guard of Honour by the Armed Forces and the Delhi Police to the Prime Minister.
  • The unfurling of the National Flag accompanied by playing of the National Anthem and firing of 21-gun salute.
    Speech by the Prime Minister.
  • Singing of the National Anthem immediately after PM’s speech.
  • Release of tri-colored balloons at the end.

Independence day celebration in 2020

While every year a cultural program is organized wherein children participate at the Independence Day event, this year, it will not be organized. The Ministry of Home Affairs said, “while organizing various programs or Independence Day celebrations, it is imperative to follow certain preventive measures such as maintaining social distancing, wearing of masks, proper sanitization, avoiding large congregations, protecting vulnerable people, etc.”

In addition to precautionary measures, the home ministry also recommended inviting COVID ‘warriors’ like doctors, health workers, sanitization workers as a recognition of their noble service in the fight against the pandemic.

Special about Independence Day 2020

The Security personnel will be taking part in the Independence Day event in quarantine. In Delhi, nearly 350 police personnel, who will be part of the guard of honor at the Red Fort have been quarantined ahead of the ceremony at the police colony in the Delhi Cantonment. The guard of honor will be inspected by PM Narendra Modi on the day.
