A 21-year-old Engineer student faces Criticism after a debate on Facebook with a friend on Mamata Banerjee.
She criticized the Bengal CM’s parade for Goddess Durga, and her Post later becomes a giant street banner which reads, “We condemn the criticism of the Chief Minister.”
She was terrified not just because of the banner on the streets but also because she has been threatened by local women with links to Trinamool Congress.
The banners were put by a group named “Dum Dum Ward 8 citizens Committee”. They believe that if the student has right to criticize the Chief Minister Banerjee, then others have a right to denounce her publicly.
The Chief Minister’s Parade of Durga Idols was aimed as Kolkata’s answer to Rio Carnival. The Student argued her point in a post saying it was a bad idea at a time when Bengal is battling with joblessness and poverty.
Trinamool Councillor Avijit Mitra said, “This Hoarding is CPM propaganda, the girl is a member of its student wing SFI. I will take no responsibility. I will not remove the hoarding until locals ask me to in writing. Or else they will say I had put it up.”
In 2012, a professor was arrested for emailing Mamata Banerjee a cartoon which caused public outrage. This year, there has been no such arrest but there seems to be a risk of public shaming.
