Sudha Chandran – Actress and Dancer is an epitome of Determination, Hard-work and Success. Sudha Chandran, the famous Bharatanatyam dancer, is one of the veteran actresses of Hindi film and TV industry. Born on 21st September 1964 in Kerala, she started dancing when she was 3½ years old.
Sudha met with a road accident near Tiruchirapalli, when she was only 16 years old. During treatment Doctors missed a small wound in her leg (ankle) and they plastered on it, which later got infected. By the time they realized the mistake, there was no other alternative but to amputate her leg. That was probably the toughest period of Sudha’s life. She overcame her disability by getting a prosthetic “Jaipur Foot” and became one of the most popular classical Dancers in India. After a gap of two years, she returned on dancing floor and performed in various countries in Europe, Canada and the Middle East and got huge success. Sudha Chandran married Ravi Dang in 1994.
Sudha Chandran started her career as an actress with a Telugu film Mayuri, which was based on her own life. The film was also dubbed in Tamil and Malayalam. After huge success in South it was remade in Hindi as Nach Mayuri, where Sudha again played herself. In 1986 she got special jury award at the National film awards for her performance in Nach Mayuri.
Later Sudha ventured into TV industry as well. Her role as Ramola in Hindi serial Kaahin Kissii Roz made her a household name. She went out to play some very popular characters like Anky ka Dada /Yamini in Naagin, Chitradevi in Deivam Thandha Veedu, the Tamil remake of Saath Nibhana Saathiya and Anand’s first wife in Hum Paanch (Season two).
She has also acted in many Bollywood movies as well as Regional movies such as Bhojpuri, Malayalam, Gujrati, Marathi etc.
Sudha Chandran has proved that “Disability is a state of mind” and we can achieve anything with sheer determination and hard work. She is a real inspiration and epitome of strength and courage.
