Surge pricing will be introduced for train tickets with rising of 10% for every 10% of tickets sold from Friday onwards. This means, if fewer seats are left available, the passenger will have to pay more.
This will be applicable to high-speed trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, and Duronto.
Mohd Jamshed, a senior board member of the Indian Railways said, “The Flexi fare system is applicable from September 9 (Friday)”.
The fares in Executive class and first AC will not change, but in other sections like second AC and chair car will. The maximum ticket can cost 1.5 times the base fare.
If, because of surge pricing, a lower class seat costs more than a fancier coach, the passenger will be informed so that he can choose to upgrade.
There are a total of 42 Rajdhani trains, 46 Shatabdi and 54 Duronto trains.
